A man lives in the penthouse of an apartment building. Every morning he takes the elevator down to the lobby and leaves the building. Upon his return, however, he can only travel halfway up in the lift and has to walk the rest of the way - unless it's raining. What is the explanation for this?

this is a clear give away. the guy is a shorty and pent house are msotly on the top floor. so while going down he had to puch the ground floor button but while he has to go up he has to push the top floor button but cant reach it. he goes to the floor whose button he can press rest of the way he trvel by foor.and on rainy days he uses his umbrella ( asummin he dosent wear rain coat) to press the top flood button .
